We will need operators for Vassar, St. Francis,
Northern Dutchess, and Castle Point VA. and Dutchess EOC) Please confirm
your availability ASAP. I expect this drill to last no more than 1 hour.

time believe to be 11 AM.

Orange County Packet Radio Digipeater Test
(From Steve Fleckenstein N2UBP - Orange County EC)
Please help us decide the best place to locate a packet radio
digipeater.
Our goal is to provide better overall packet radio coverage in Orange County and
extend that coverage into surrounding counties.
We need to decide which of two excellent sites provides the best overall
coverage.
We need your reports on your ability to connect to specific locations using one
or more digipeaters.
Please send reports to
n2ubp@winlink.org
Frequency: 145.650 Mhz 1200 baud
Digipeater to test:N2TMT-3 and/or N2TMT-7 (KA node)
Location - 147.285 repeater site (Northern Orange, southern Sullivan)
This first site has a huge coverage area and may include parts of Ulster,
Dutchess, and Putnam Counties but we won't know without your help.
Other digipeaters available:
W2KI-3 / W2KI-7 (KA-NODE) - Harriman, NY (southern Orange County)
N2KI-11 / N2KI-12 (KA-NODE) - Between Middletown and Montgomery, NY
N2UBP-3 - Southwest Middletown, NY
N2UBP-5 - EOC, Government Center, Goshen, NY
Sites to try to connect to:
Traditional packet applications:
N2KI DX Cluster - East Middletown
N2UBP-9 Winpack PBBS - SW Middletown
Winlink TelPac nodes: (Running a standard terminal program you will get a
greeting message and "H" for help or "I" for info message.)
N2ATQ-10 - Blooming Grove
N2KI-10 - East of Middletown
KA2GRS-10 - Middletown
N2UBP-15 - Goshen
N2UBP-14 - SW of Middletown
W2JTS-10 - Goshen
Winlink TelPac at 9600 baud also available on 145.070 at N2UBP-15 Goshen and
N2UBP-14 Middletown.
My findings so far:
W2KI connects easily into N2TMT. From N2TMT you can reach N2KI, N2UBP
nodes in Goshen.
The N2UBP-5 in Goshen can connect to W2JTS-10 and N2ATQ-10. N2KI has good
coverage into N2TMT, Goshen nodes, and Middletown area nodes.
The second week of the test the digipeater will be relocated to Wurtsboro
Mountain where we will test coverage again and compare the results from the two
sites.
Thanks for your help.

OC ARES/RACES
Orange County ARES/RACES Comm Vehicle
(From Steve Fleckenstein N2UBP - Orange County EC)
Here is one of our projects. Mobile Life was willing to donate their
mobile home to Orange County ARES. We could not afford the operational
costs. After two meetings with the OC Executive and a presentation to the
County Legislative Emergency Services Committee I won the approval for Orange
County to take ownership of the vehicle and cover all operating and maintenance
expenses.
The vehicle will include amateur and first responder radios, a talking GPS,
scanner, CB, KPC 9612+ 1200/9600 baud TNC for remote Internet via WinLink 2000,
HF, supporting laptop computers, a small conference table, and more.
Orange County ARES will train drivers and operate the vehicle for ARES, RACES
and other first responder events within Orange County.
Steve LaCroce N2TMT (OC AEC) has been the driving force behind this project.
