From Tom Carrubba KA2D, Section Emergency Coordinator:
New York City: NYC ARES participated in the New York City
Marathon in November.  They were also on standby in case of
a transit strike in December.  NYC ARES continues to support
Athons.  Nassau County: Nassau ARES supported Athons;
November 3 NYC Marathon and November 17 Mineola Mustang
Run.  Membership has grown 36%. Suffolk County: John Alloca
WA2LUA held an Emergency Communication Training course on
Nov. 16.  SEC Tom KA2D: All Districts were on standby for the
storm of Nov 15. No action was required. Members did participate
with weather info for SKYWARN. I was honored to received the
Hudson Division "Ham of the Year" award at the Hudson Division
awards dinner on Nov 9. The linked repeater project for NLI is now
backed by RACES SEMO Region I RO, Bill Scheilbel N2NFI. The
project has been assigned to the Rockhill Repeater Assc and Interplex.
Most of the system is in place. They are working on a solution to have
redundant connectivity through the lower Hudson Valley into the Albany
NY area. It is slow going with everyone being busy with job and family
obligations. I have completed CCE EC002 and CCE EC003. Nassau
County OEM is now a separate commission. In a meeting with Deputy
Commissioner Greg Caronia, Greg who is a licensed ham KB2BWV,
expects much support from the ham community in this county. Nassau
County is the only district in NLI who has separate ARES and RACES
groups. We hope to align these groups in the near future.
