Welcome!  This is the March edition of the NY City / Long Island
"ehappenings" Section newsletter!  This newsletter is here to serve
the Amateur Radio community in our area.  I welcome and
encourage all submissions.  Please help make this your newsletter!
I especially encourage officers of the area's Amateur Radio clubs to
submit their meeting announcements, guest speakers and special
events. Please submit any information for the April issue prior
to the end of March.

QST Section News

The QST Section News column for May 2002 is due on March
12.  If you or your club has anything which you feel is of interest to
the other members in the section, please contact me before March 12.

HAPPENINGS

Ham Radio University 2002 - The ARRL NYC/LI Section
Convention was held on Sunday, January 20, 2002.
An HRU Wrap-up meeting was held on Monday, February 25
at Babylon Town Hall at 7 pm. Discussion was of the recently
concluded event and ideas on how to make the next one even better.
HRU 2003 is tenatively scheduled for Sunday, January 19, 2003.

KA2D reports the following DEC's reporting activity in January:
Charles N2NOV for NYC was the featured speaker at the ARES
forum at HRU2002/NLI Convention and the subject matter was
the events of 9/11/01, KC2ENI put together a very informative
Power Point presentation; George WA2WKV for Nassau reports
that Nassau ARES also participated in HRU2002., Bill N2NFI
for Suffolk reports that Suffolk ARES also participated in HRU2002.
SEC Tom KA2D has invited as the keynote speaker at
"Communications Academy 2002" in Seattle, WA. Communications
Academy 2002 is a training workshop for volunteer emergency

STM Charlie WA2YOW reports Bill, WB2GTG has made the
BPL again this month.  Charlie also reports the following:

BM Mike Christopher W2IW reports increased airing of ARRL
bulletins on area repeaters.  Congratulations to Mike on his recent
marriage to Linda KC2IVP.

LIMARC plans one day Extra Class Theory course.
The Long Island Mobile Amateur Radio Club plans a one day
Extra Class Theory course on Sunday, March 24.  It will be held
at Levittown Hall, in Hicksville from 8:30 am to 5 pm.  If you are

Larry Lutzak WA2CNV becomes the new MetroCor President.
Due to the resignation of Stephan Anderman K2SMA, Larry
becomes President, effective immediately.  MetroCor is the new
coordinating body for the New York City metropolitan area.
