N.Y. City Long Island Section (NLI)

Section Happenings Newsletter
edited by George Tranos N2GA
NLI Section Manager

September 2002 Welcome!  This is the September edition of the NY City / Long Island
"ehappenings" Section newsletter!  This newsletter is here to serve
the Amateur Radio community in our area.  I welcome and
encourage all submissions.  Please help make this your newsletter!

I especially encourage officers of the area's Amateur Radio clubs to
submit their meeting announcements, guest speakers and special
events. Please submit any information for the October issue prior
to the end of September.

QST Section News

The QST Section News column for November 2002 is due on Sept.
12.  If you or your club has anything which you feel is of interest to
the other members in the section, please contact me before Sept. 12.
As stated in my previous bulletin, the Section News column in QST
will be discontinued in January 2003.  The ARRL Board of Directors
voted at their July 2002 meeting to discontinue the printed version
of section news.  Each section now has a site on the world-wide-web
to replicate section news.  See the NLI site at:
http://www.arrl.org/sections/?sect=NLI

HAPPENINGS

NY State PRB-1 bill dormant for now.  The NY State legislature has
adjourned. The bill has passed the Senate. There have been rumblings
about the legislature reconvening in December after the November elections.  Whether this happens or not is anyone's guess.  Please standby and be ready
to contact you assemblyman if this happens.  See the Hudson Division web-site http://www.hudson.arrl.org/ for more information.

know, hurricanes, tropical storms, and the flood waters that often
accompany them can affect a very large portion of the country and
beyond.  Be alert for Hurricane watches and warnings, have plenty
of spare batteries available and be prepared to operate on emergency
power.  Tune in to your local ARES or SKYWARN nets.
