Season's Greetings.

This is the December edition of the NY City / Long Island
"ehappenings" Section newsletter!  This newsletter is here to serve
the Amateur Radio community in our area.  I welcome and
encourage all submissions.  Please help make this your newsletter!
I especially encourage officers of the area's Amateur Radio clubs to
submit their meeting announcements, guest speakers and special
events.

QST Section News

The QST Section News column for February 2002 is due on December
12.  If you or your club has anything which you feel is of interest to
the other members in the section, please contact me before December 12.

HAPPENINGS

Happy Holidays!  The NLI Section Staff joins me in wishing you
and yours and wonderful and joyous Holiday Season.

Ham Radio University 2002 - Make sure you mark your
calendars now for HRU 2002, the ARRL NLI Section
Convention.  It is planned for Sunday, January 21, 2002,
at Babylon Town Hall Annex on Phelps Lane in North
Babylon. It runs from 8 am to 4 pm. The next planning meeting
for this third annual event will be on Tuesday, December 11 at
7 pm at Babylon Town EOC.  Come down and help make this
the best HRU ever!  HRU is also the ARRL New York City /
Long Island Section Convention again this year.  Contact Phil

Contest Season continues in December!  The ARRL 160
meter contest is December 7 through 9.  The ARRL 10
meter contest is December 14 through 16.

Emil Tillona KD1F is the section DXCC card checker and is
available for field checking of QSL cards for your DXCC Award.

Manhattan VE Sessions are available - The Columbia University
VE Team holds VE sessions on the third Monday of the month
at 6:30 pm at Columbia University, Watson Labs, 6th Floor,
612 West 115th Street, Manhattan. Preregistration is suggested,
contact Alan Crosswell at (212) 854-3754 or alan@columbia.edu.
The next exam session is Monday, December 17.

Kings County Radio Club is holding a VE session on Tuesday,
December 11 at Gateway National Park.  Contact George

more information.

Ham maps available online - All amateurs are invited to download

UPCOMING Club Events

Special Event Station K2U will be on the air on Saturday,
December 1, as part of NWS/ARRL Skywarn Recognition
Day.  Amateurs from the Upton, NY (OKX) region will operate
from the National Weather Service office in Upton, NY.
This event will be from 00:00-24:00 UTC. K2U will be in the
general SSB portions of bands 40-10. All amateurs in the
region are encouraged to operate/visit. Contact Bob Giglio,

Mid Island Amateur Radio Repeater Association Monthly Meeting
is Tuesday, December 4, at 7 PM at the Brookhaven Rec Center in

NY City ARES will participate in "Operation Santa", a Christmas
party for disabled children, to be held at JFK airport on Wednesday,
December 5 starting at 8AM.

Nassau County Police ARC will hold their December
club meeting on Thursday, December 6 at 8 pm at
Long Beach Police Auxiliary Building, 859 East Park Ave,

American Red Cross Emergency Communications Service club
meeting on Thursday, December 6, at 7 PM at 138-02 Queens Blvd,

Peconic ARC annual "pot luck" party is Saturday, Dec. 8, at the home
of Roberta Keis in South Jamesport starting at 4 pm.  Contact

There will be a citywide NYC ARES meeting on Sat. December 8th
at the 23rd Street location of UCP starting at Noon.  This meeting
is open to all ARES members or prospective members.  Contact

Ham Radio University 2002 Planning meeting is Tuesday, Dec.
11, at 7 pm at Babylon Town Hall EOC, 200 East Sunrise Hwy,
North Lindenhurst.  This is the next planning meeting for the
2002 event. Anyone interested in helping out with the planning
process for this third annual event is invited.  Contact HRU

HOSARC Monthly Meeting is Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Queens at 8 pm.

SCRC VE Exams will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Islip
Town Hall Annex, 401 Main St. Islip in room 302 starting 7:30 pm.

KCRC monthly meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Brooklyn at

Manhattan / Bronx ARES meeting will be on Thursday, Dec. 20,

Long Island DX Association will meet on Friday, December 21 at
the Polytechnic Institute- Route 110 in East Farmingdale at 8pm.
Come in the rear door of the main building adjacent to the East side
of Rte. 110. Anyone interested in DX is welcome and refreshments

Nassau ARC Monthly Meeting is Monday, Dec. 31, in Eisenhower
Park in East Meadow at the Senior Citizen's Center at 8 pm. See
